We have a few opportunities that are a general opportunity without a set time. Example: Volunteers sign up to wash beach towels and return to us. We may have 10 loads on a Friday. They can pick up whenever but once 10 people have signed up, we need it to close for signups. It's difficult to do that with a time attached.
We are in a similar boat at my organization and would love to see shifts without time attached. Our volunteer opportunities can be completed at any time of the day, and we emphasize that it's self scheduled and flexible to prospective volunteers. Having to put in a time was confusing and in some cases, led to volunteers not visiting because they misunderstood.

Thanks for the request! In the meantime, you can set up the opportunity to have a maximum number of volunteer set (ie. 10) and once it reaches 10, the opporutnity will automatically close when full. There would be no need to leverage the schedule in this opportunity, and the role they could signup for would be "wash beach towels".
