Yes - we really need better searching! At least look in informal name field, not just the account name. And it would be great if the search didn't fully focus on the first name only. Just searched for "Joan G" because I couldn't remember how to spell her last name (Geoghegan). She is the ONLY constituent with first name Joan and a last name starting with G, and yet she was the 32nd suggestion to come up (page 2).
We have people who are only known, and sign up as volunteers by their middle or another nickname. But donations, checks, come in under their legal name. It is time consuming to remember who they are to find them, or merge them (when you find them).
We have many monastics who we would address by their religious name, but whose payment will be entered with their legal name. We are constantly merging the same duplicates over and over.

This would help for any constituent who changes a name - individuals or organizations. Please make this an option

This would also help with alternate spelling. For example: Smith and Smyth.
