Flexible options in the gender field
Collecting a constituent's gender isn't a commonly used data point for most fundraisers - but for those who do find it useful, you often need more flexible options than just "male" and "female".
This idea would free up the Gender options either by allowing users to set their own gender options, or moving Gender from the Personal information section to a custom field.
I am disheartened to see that there has been no progress made on this since April of 2023, and that this has been "not prioritized." Perhaps my organization needs to consider taking our business elsewhere.
Adding a custom field that's redundant with an existing field is confusing for the end user. See also: limited suffixes field.
If this is a path that Bloomerang chooses to go down, I would request that organizations have the option of displaying genders other than male/female. There are many communities where this option would be counter-productive to the mission of the organization.
Come on Bloomerang. It is 2023, we need to respect our donors, volunteers, and employees by using preferred gender pronouns and logging them in the database as a precaution so nobody will be accidentally misgendered.
We need this feature as well. Better yet would be to have a Pronouns field, which seems to be a broader way to ask this question. We have this as a custom field, but it should be part of the regular profile.
I would like the options in this field to be customizable. We need the flexibility to include the gender identifiers our constituents are using.
We've also added a custom field for pronouns, as a way around this. But I agree that it would be helpful to have this simply standardized and prioritized.
Needs to be updated with inclusive gender options such as:
Woman
Man
Transgender
Non-binary/non-conforming
Prefer not to respond
